Client and context

Our client is a large Global Asset Management firm with strong presence in Japan. They are expanding and hiring a new member to their Japan Equities Investment team. They are open to hire either a Research Analyst (Associate level) or an Investment Manager (VP level) and are looking for candidates with a Japan equity research and equity engagement background.

The role

• Long-term investments in high-quality companies pursuing the creation of excess returns.
• ESG engagement with a small number of companies, creating shareholder value.

Ideal candidate background

• Japan Equity analyst with experience in sellside or buyside
• Experience in analyzing and engaging companies
• Generalist is preferred
• CFA holder preferred

Mandatory requirements (not considered otherwise)

• Native-level Japanese proficiency
• Fluent English ability

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct analysis of current holdings and future potential investments for Japanese equity strategies
• Seek and propose new ideas for Japanese equity strategies
• Build up and execute engagement work on existing holdings
• Support portfolio management workflow for Japanese equity strategies

Qualifications and Skills

• Excellent communication skills and a team player
• Experience in Japan Equity Research

Location and compensation

• The role will be based in Tokyo.
• Comp range will be competitive at both Associate and VP level experience.
