Position Summary

Seeking a Senior Director to head its Project Finance and M&A team in Japan.
This position is responsible for all aspects of financing and M&A activities in Japan.
The scope of responsibility includes project finance, corporate finance facilities, and project sale.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with senior leaders of the Project Finance and M&A team to advance their competitive position in Japan by ensuring the successful financing and sale of solar and energy storage projects through existing and new venues.
  • Expand existing corporate financing facilities and bring in new corporate finance lenders to fund working capital of them.
  • Lead the structuring, negotiating, and closing of non-recourse/recourse finance.
  • Lead the sale process of projects developed/constructed by them.
  • Cultivate relationship with banks, financial institutions, investors and external advisors throughout the financing and project sales process.
  • Oversee the delivery of optimal capital structure including debt financing, PPA, lease, tax and other structures as applicable. Integrate PPA revenue models and pricing into financial models and structure optimal project returns.
  • Review and negotiate project agreements, debt financing, joint development, and partnership agreements. Work on project bankability aspects across various functions including PPA, EPC, O&M, asset management, interconnection, real estate, permitting, environmental and insurance.
  • Perform fiduciary role in ensuring project bankability and oversee and take responsibility project financial analysis as part of presentations to Investment Committee. Display integrity in all dealings.
  • Maintain senior oversight on development and maintenance of financial models and provide guidance to Project Finance and M&A team and relevant departments on required model adjustments and refinements as transaction evolves.
  • Manage their project finance and M&A team. Recruit, train and support the development of team members.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in project finance, preferably with substantial experience in renewable energy. Other relevant experiences include corporate or investment banking, private equity, power utility, or renewable energy development.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in leading a team.
  • Proven track record of successful project finance and M&A closings from development stage through to final completion. Established network of industry contacts is a strong advantage.
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to establish positive collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and work within a multi-disciplined team setting, while retaining accountability for results.
  • Strong interdisciplinary skills covering financing, tax, accounting, financial modeling, and contract analysis with ability to contribute to or guide project due diligence.
  • Proven ability to deliver in a fast-paced, result-oriented environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including the ability to convey ideas and positions clearly.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics or Accounting required; advanced degree a plus.
  • Capability to travel domestically on a short-term basis.
  • Bilingual in English and Japanese.
